24. No Time
"Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting! Haha."
Kids, say hello to Rabbit!
.....
Now say goodbye to Rabbit.
I don't know anything about Rabbit, really. Why they're running from the Slender Man, how they came to be in the forest, no beginning to their story, no middle, not even if they're male or female (with no boobs, it happens). Apparently, all I do know about their story is the end.
And some crazed laugh response.
They're the amalgamation of several ideas, I guess. If it isn't obvious, they're based mainly off the White Rabbit from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, hence the waistcoat, ears, gloves and pocket watch. I wanted them to wear a mask (because I actually enjoy the ambiguity), and the gas mask came from reading Romantically Apocalyptic and Gone with the Blastwave. I suppose the final piece is actually the song playing, "Run, Rabbit, Run" by Flanagan and Allen (though this version is different). It's a cheerful sounding song, but then I thought about how sinister it could be in a different context.
Tada.
Rabbit.
----------------------------------------------
This entire thing was an experiment. All of it, but especially the animation. I haven't tried to animate properly in years, and this is the first rather larger-scale frame-by-frame that I've tried.
For me, personally, it was a success.
The animation is clunky and odd in places, but overall I'm very happy with it. I also learned a bunch of things.
- Using tweens where you can is a GOOD THING
- Tweening by hand is sucky and time-consuming, but it looks much smoother than not doing it
- Flash actually does have more than just the preset swatches! Found that out rather too late, though
- Trees... are... HORRIBLE TO ANIMATE
- Having a reference is the best thing you could ever do
Rabbit may show up again in the future, but any and all appearances will be firmly before the timeframe of this.
